Babies Are Good for the Soul

Baby Nathan just left with his mommy and daddy. They had come to visit.
It does us melancholy types good to have a cute little baby around. This is a tough time of year for us (the melancholy types) what with the days getting shorter.
I feel so much better now.

I agree. I had a dose of my 5 year old great-nephew last night. He clung to me and kissed me and said “I love you”. Not much in life gets better than that.
I’m melancholy too and hate this time of year because the holidays depress me.
Short, gray days are one of the reasons I can’t ever imagine living anywhere north of Florida (in the U.S. at least) again. I love year round sunshine and green too much. It’s depressing to me when I go north even for a week in the winter. I lived in Georgia one spring when it was gray almost 3 months with the sun coming out only every couple of weeks for about 11 minutes or so. From there, I moved to Dallas, which was in the middle of a drought. By that point, I didn’t care how many days it didn’t rain, as long as the sky stayed clear!
Baby cuddles are a good thing to have in ones cheer up basket!

So the heat is worth it for the sunshine? Sometime I think I would agree.
For me it is. You get used to it. A lot of places up north it gets really hot in the summer. Some weeks it’s hotter at my parents in Maryland than it is for me here. But the real treat starts now through March, when most of the rest of the country is getting cold and having short days. It’s 7:15 and we just got back from our weekly dinner at the Lakefront. My kids were in their swimsuits, playing in the splash pad, and there was a nice breeze. Every summer, I just remember this and it’s worth it. Shoot, you can always drive a few hours away to Georgia if you want to see leaves change color or get a dose of gray days (we get a few during hurricane season :) ) I love Florida seasons–green and greener. Right now when the rest of the country has their pretty fall leaves, we have some trees that are blossoming beautifully. And in 2 months, we’ll have oranges….Can you tell I love it here?!?!? Living in Florida is my front line anti-depressant. Chocolate is my backup.
