Hope for Us and the Earth

Currently we on the East Coast of the US of A are experiencing a drought, I’m told. The water just disappeared. People are being told not to waste the little water we have left. Once you use it up, it’s gone. Right?
Or is it just all in Mexico? I mean, it’s not like someone’s electrolyzing the water into oxygen and hydrogen. It’s got to be somewhere.
One day, someone’s going to figure out how to use nanotechnology to convert waste into whatever, and is going to start mining the nation’s landfills. (At which point the nation’s landfill-owners will become billionaires if they aren’t already.) What is wasted isn’t gone. It’s still sitting there, waiting for someone to figure out how to recycle it.
Which is kind of what the Dallas Zoo has done. Converting animal waste to fuel isn’t anything new, but it sounds like a great start to me.
And to help out in the process of reducing waste (which is a misnomer, because nothing is ever really wasted; it’s just waiting for someone to figure out how to use it) and making our country more sustainable, we have President Clinton and Wal-Mart. That’s right, the guy the Right hates is working with the company the Right loves to do something the Left wants.
Or is it something the Right wants too?
The only thing to stop us is the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics. And if you believe in the human soul, even that can’t stop us (it would make the Universe and open system, you see).
