Ron Paul and Lou Dobbs: The Perfect Ticket

Nov 18th, 2007 by Micah Tillman | 5 Comments |

Robert Novak says that some people say Lou Dobbs is considering a run for President. This is the Lou Dobbs of War on the Middle Class, whose type Plato predicted in The Republic (564a-565d) while describing of the rise of tyranny out of democracy.

“Idlers” (or “drones”), says Plato, — the people who make their money by hanging around politicians — tell the poor that the rich are trying to establish an oligarchy. Class warfare ensues and the tyrant rises to “defend” the poor.

Okay, well, Plato doesn’t talk about “the middle class,” but Dobbs seems to have Plato’s description of class warfare stuff down pat. (I don’t know who’s being more conspiracy-theorist-ish here, him or me. *grin* The point is, people should read more Plato.)

Anyway, so then Mona Charen has a scathing piece on Ron Paul:

Ron Paul is too cozy with kooks and conspiracy theorists. . . . Paul has appeared on the Alex Jones radio program not once, not twice, but three times. Jones is the sort who believes that black helicopters are coming to impose a police state on America. He is quite concerned about the Bohemian Grove, the Bilderbergers, the federal election system (it’s rigged, of course) and so on. Naturally, he believes that 9/11 was an inside job. Ron Paul has even appeared in a Jones film, Endgame, the point of which is apparently that the Bilderbergers are plotting to control the world. They’ve already got Europe (through the European Union) and now are on the verge of securing America by means of a North American union that would unite Mexico, the United States and Canada.

I am no expert on Ron Paul. I do know that it would be very interesting to have a Libertarian in the White House. And I generally like the Libertarian approach to politics.

But perhaps Charen has just provided me with justification for the strange feeling I get when I think about Paul. (Wow. There’s a rational statement, Tillman. I know. Sorry.)

Now if we can just get the Dobbs and Paul to run together. Perhaps Dobbs as President and Paul as VP? Or however you want it.

(This was a confusing post for me. I don’t know who’s weirder anymore, me or them. . . . Have a nice day!)

Perfect complements for each other or perfect for the country? Ron Paul I can handle but if Lou Dobbs ever gets into the White House, you know we’re moving to Canada. Right? ;)

    For each other. :-)

And we’re never moving to Canada. You can’t run away from your problems.

I live in Austin and I know that Alex Jones guy is really “out There”.

    I’m voting Democrat!

Well, then we have a small bit of corroboration for Charen’s view. :-)

After reading Charen’s piece, I find it weird that a website that has published some of my articles has also published Ron Paul’s. Does that make me guilty-by-association-once-removed? *grin*

You have fun voting Democrat, now, y’hear? (That’s my best impression of my Floridian grandmother) :-)

That’s right, you can’t run from your problems.

Besides, moving to Canada would just run you into a whole new set of problems, and then where do you go? Yemen? Lichtenstein? Andorra?
