You talk about the problems with different types of governments (Democracy causes the minority to be quieted and for the group to be blamed for the actions of some; liberalism takes away personal freedom; and conservatism does not help the people enough), well I challenge you to devise one that even you can agree with.
Seamus–
Challenge accepted. There’s nothing more annoying than someone who does nothing but complain (except perhaps someone who mispronounces “lawyer”).
I saw this one article once, where the writer suggested that a true democracy would not be based on majority vote, but on random selection. Put everybody’s name in a hat, pull a few names, and you’ve got your government for the term.
(Of course, you’d have to wonder how the writer would suggest the government’s decisions be made. Randomly select one person from within the government, and go with her decision?)
I’m opposed to this option because it ignores virtue. People should read more Aristotle. But it’s intriguing nonetheless.
