How Did the World Survive the 70s and 80s?

The world was so ugly. The cars, the color schemes, the clothes, the hair. The graphic design! The interior design!
20 years without beauty.
Maybe the music was what kept the world from going mad? (Though even a lot of the music was terrible. All those classic rock and metal songs whose first minute [and every verse] consisted of a single chord, or at least of only one bass note that droned on and on . . . .)
(The Wife and I are watching Jaws for the first time as I speak, if you’re wondering why I’m bringing this up now.)

lol :)
Ah, but some of the music of the 80’s was great… and some of the fashion was inextricably bound to it. You couldn’t have synth pop with out neon colors… It just didn’t work.
I might be the last defender of Yaz, Erasure, Depeche Mode and their various off shoots, knock-offs, and what not. Hearing “Just Can’t Get Enough” at the movies the other day made my day.
No intent here to rip on synthpop! Depeche Mode, New Order, a-ha (a-ha especially! genius!). Thanks to my li’l sister for my education in that genre.
And a lot of the “plain-old” pop and pop-rock was fantastic as well: U2 and The Smiths come immediately to mind. But Blondie was also great. Against, thanks to my li’l sister for my education there (though I knew U2 on my own :-)
And then the Pistols and the Ramones and the Clash and the Cure! (Thanks to my li’l brother for the Pistols and Clash education, and to my bandmates and friends for the Ramones and Cure education).
And Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” is an incredible song.
And Pink Floyd weren’t bad either . . . .
