McCain’s Speech Was . . .

Pretty much what I expected. Which means it was about as good as Obama’s acceptance speech. (Which I thought was disappointing, given Obama’s reputation.)
Not exciting (till the end) but not bad. The end was intense. McCain made an interesting choice in talking through the applause. Revved things up.
But mainly it was just solid. Great stuff about service, love of country. Actually moving.
Even some good policy stuff.
But over all it was just solid. No Matthews Moments.
McCain couldn’t give an exciting speech if he wanted to, anyway. I think it would be beneath his dignity. And I don’t mean that in an insulting way.
When you have gravitas, you shouldn’t get worked up in public.
Unless you’re really hopping mad.
Somebody messed up tonight’s lineup, however. Last night’s was basically perfection, from the standpoint of rhetorical impact, energy, etc.
McCain actually gave the most exciting speech of the evening. . . .
