Well, it seems to me that if living longer would be torture then the tortured souls simply wouldn’t get the telomerase boost.
I’d be OK with an extended life (depending on the circs. Could my youthful self be extended or would it be my middle-aged, rapidly decaying self? Guess it would depend on when I got the boost…), but the whole increased risk of cancer thing would probably deter me from trying this particular method til they worked out the kinks.
