After teaching two classes this summer at the Catholic University of America (“The Classical Mind” and “Philosophy of God”), I have now signed my contracts for the Fall at both CUA and the University of Maryland.

I’ll be teaching “The Classical Mind” once again at CUA, but this time to non-first-year students. It’ll be my sixth Fall in a row teaching the course, and I love it every time I do (even though my specialty is actually in modern philosophy). It is a real privilege to get to introduce students to Plato, Aristotle, Augustine, and Aquinas.

At UMD, I’ll be teaching “Existentialism.” I am very excited about this. We’ll cover Dostoevsky, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Heidegger, Sartre, and Camus (as well as Jaspers, Ortega, and Kafka, I hope). I’ll also be functioning as my own TA for all three discussion sections, so that should be very interesting. I foresee Gilbert and Sullivan-esque debates between me and myself. The debates, of course, will all be performed in song.

My contracts at both universities are only for the Fall, so I still need to find employment for the Spring. But, one step at a time.

Yesterday — April 14th, 2011 — I successfully defended my dissertation, Empty and Filled Intentions in Husserl’s Early Work. This means I’ll be graduating in a month with my Ph.D.

In preparation for my new degree, my site has undergone a significant redesign and upgrade. Check out my updated About page, my CV, links to class handouts and other unpublished pieces (Writings page) by Yours Truly, and my new-and-improved Contact page.

I’ll be updating this blog periodically, as well as the About, CV, and Writings pages. For even more up-to-date news, follow me on Twitter (@MicahTillman). There are a lot of us philosophers on Twitter; if you don’t tweet yet, feel free to join in!

____

I’m very much looking forward to becoming “Dr.” Tillman, but I’m also very much looking forward to continuing to do what I love: teaching, writing, and researching philosophy.

So, if your school or department is looking for someone who loves to teach philosophy, I’m on the market for a teaching position (of any kind) beginning in Fall 2011. My AOS is phenomenology, and my AOCs are ethics, history of philosophy, and philosophy of mind (see my CV for more information).

Thanks for dropping by!
